Geosites

Geosites are windows into the earth’s history that tell visitors about earlier geological eras, geological events and life on earth. In the Muskau Arch, especially witnesses of the younger geological history can be found everywhere. These include the Gieser landscapes in the Drachenberge hills near Krauschwitz, which are characteristic of the Muskau Arch, countless erratic boulders, iron-sulfate springs, the up to 400 colorful post-mining lakes or imaginative erosion forms.

Geosites are the technical basis for the activities of geoparks and their recording, maintenance and presentation are part of the tasks of UNESCO Global Geoparks in all countries as well as of National Geoparks in Germany.
